Pueblo, CO – Residents across southern Colorado are under Cold Weather Advisories and Extreme Cold Watches as temperatures plummet, with wind chills expected to reach dangerously low levels through Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo, wind chills could drop as low as -20°F in valley areas and southeast plains, with the central mountains facing extreme lows of -50°F. The Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5 p.m. Monday, while the Extreme Cold Watch extends from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.
The NWS warns that wind chills this severe can cause frostbite on exposed skin within 15 minutes. Precautions include wearing multiple layers, a hat, gloves, and a face mask when venturing outdoors. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities, bring pets indoors, and ensure heating systems are functioning properly.
Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the region until midweek. Minor improvements are expected Monday afternoon, but overnight wind chills will stay dangerously low, especially in the high country and mountain valleys.
Drivers should exercise caution, as icy conditions and limited visibility may impact travel. The public is advised to stay updated on local weather alerts and take necessary precautions to avoid prolonged exposure.
