Silverton, CO – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Southwest San Juan Mountains, including Silverton, Rico, and Hesperus. The advisory will remain in effect from 11 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, heavy snowfall is expected during this period, with total accumulations ranging from 6 to 10 inches. The hazardous conditions are likely to make roads, bridges, and overpasses slick and dangerous. Drivers should anticipate difficult travel conditions, particularly during Wednesday’s morning and evening commutes.

The snowfall could significantly disrupt daily activities in the region. Residents are advised to allow extra travel time, drive cautiously, and keep updated on current road conditions by dialing 511.

Authorities recommend preparing vehicles for winter weather by checking tire tread, keeping emergency kits stocked, and ensuring all fluids are topped off. Outdoor enthusiasts should also take caution, as conditions in higher elevations could worsen rapidly.

The storm is expected to taper off early Thursday, but icy roads could persist. Travelers should stay vigilant and monitor updates from local authorities for any changes to the advisory.
