Colorado Winter Weather Alert: Up to 9 Inches of Snow, 60 MPH Winds Through Saturday

Leadville, CO – A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of Colorado from 8 p.m. Thursday through 5 p.m. Saturday, with up to 9 inches of snow and strong winds creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, affected areas include Leadville, Lake County, Saguache County, Western Chaffee County, and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Winds could reach 60 mph in some locations, further reducing visibility and making travel especially dangerous over mountain passes like La Veta Pass.

Forecasters expect total snow accumulations between 4 and 9 inches, with heavier amounts at higher elevations. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds could lead to blowing and drifting snow, making roads slick and difficult to navigate.

Travelers are urged to use caution, reduce speeds, and check road conditions by calling 511 before heading out. Those in impacted areas should prepare for possible delays and ensure they have emergency supplies in their vehicles.
