Containment of the Palisades Fire has crossed 50%

One of the most destructive fires in California’s history has finally crossed 50% containment.

As of the most recent update at 1:40 p.m. Sunday from Cal Fire, the Palisades Fire was at 52% containment. The footprint, as it had been for days, was held to 23,713 acres burned.

In its situation summary, Cal Fire credited clear skies and calm conditions overnight for allowing firefighters to gain the upper hand over the blaze.

Cal Fire said crews were “working around the clock” to bolster containment lines ahead of another significant weather event on Monday and Tuesday, when Santa Ana Winds are set to return to Southern California, providing conditions more susceptible to fire ignition.

In all, the Palisades Fire has destroyed nearly 5,000 structures and killed 10.
