DA to provide update on Menendez brothers murder case 

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman will be providing an update on the notorious Menendez brothers murder case on Monday morning.

The exact nature of the update on the case was not disclosed by the DA’s Office. The news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Pacific time.

Hochman has previously stated that he opposes a new trial for Lyle and Erik Menendez, who are serving life sentences for the murders of their parents, Jose and Kitty, at their Beverly Hills home in 1989. The brothers were 21 and 18 at the time of the killings.

The brothers’ case has received new attention in recent times due to several factors, including a popular Netflix series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, new evidence, including a letter written by Erik alleging abuse by Jose Menendez, and former L.A. County DA George Gascón publicly supporting the brothers’ request for clemency.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently directed the California Board of Parole Hearings to evaluate whether Lyle and Erik, who are now 57 and 54, respectively, pose a risk to public safety if they were to be released from prison.

The extended family of the brothers has come out in support of their release and has criticized the DA for his opposition to a new trial.
