Deerfield Beach Apartment Stabbing: 50-year-old Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder

A stabbing at a Deerfield Beach apartment building has left two people hospitalized and one suspect in custody.

Several residents were forced to wait outside as Broward Sheriff’s Office investigators came to investigate the incident on the 200 block of Southwest First Terrace around 3:30 a.m.

A witness told Local 10 News that two men were arguing until things turned violent.

Deputies have arrested Thelson Smith, 50, on two counts of attempted murder.

“Well I was out exercising and I’m getting ready to go to church, and I exercise every morning before I go to work and before I go to church, and I just happen to look down the road here and I grew up down the block and I thought I’d just come over here and see what was going on,” according to witness Darrel Adams.

It everything happened on the second floor of the building. Deputies were observed checking the perimeter, including a dumpster, and discovered a bloodied piece of clothing right in front.

“We need more love in our hearts, and we need to try and help people more often and just try and pick up our community, make it a better place for all of us,” according to Adams.
