Disney to layoff close to 200 in ABC News Group and entertainment networks: reports
The Walt Disney Company is reducing its workforce by 6%, which leads to close to 200 jobs being cut from within the ABC News Group and Disney’s entertainment networks.
The newsletter Status was the first to report that this was coming.
According to the Wall Street Journal, sources say most of the impact will be felt at ABC News entities based in New York.
The move will consolidate ABC News Studios, 20/20, Nightline and “Impact x Nightline” into one unit, reports Deadline.
All three hours of Good Morning America will be under the same producer, Simone Swink. Previously the show’s third hour known as GMA 3, was under different production.
The layoffs will lead to the elimination of ABC’s website 538, which focuses on opinion polls, politics, economics and sports blogging. The WSJ reports that it will affect 15 employees.
For Disney’s entertainment networks, cuts and changes in programming can be expected to channels like Freeform and FX, the outlet continued.
