Dowagiac Cyclist Hospitalized After Crash with Vehicle in Cass County

Wayne Township, MI – A 32-year-old cyclist was hospitalized after a crash involving a vehicle on Rudy Road Monday afternoon.

Cass County Sheriff Clint Roach said the collision occurred at about 2:46 p.m. in Wayne Township. Deputies determined that Michael Brown, of Dowagiac, was biking northbound on Rudy Road when a vehicle struck him. The driver, identified as 84-year-old Dowagiac resident Harvey Anson, was also traveling northbound when the crash occurred.

Brown sustained injuries and was transported by SMCAS Ambulance to Lakeland Niles Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that Brown was not wearing a helmet during the crash.

Emergency responders, including Dowagiac Police and the Dowagiac Fire Department, assisted at the scene. Officials said Anson was wearing a seatbelt and remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.

The incident remains under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities urge cyclists to prioritize helmet safety and caution while riding on rural roads.
