Driver surrenders to police after pursuit full of PIT maneuvers, standoffs

A Los Angeles Police pursuit in the San Fernando Valley was full of starts and stops Tuesday afternoon, but the driver eventually surrendered to police.

The driver’s vehicle, which appears to be a silver Kia Soul, Scion xB or similar small SUV, moved slowly at times while reaching 50 or 60 mph for other stretches of the chase.

At least one attempted PIT maneuver failed to bring the car to a halt, as did near collisions with other vehicles.

Though another PIT maneuver in Chatsworth at 3:11 p.m. brought the vehicle to a stop near Superior Street and Winnetka Avenue, it took off again a few minutes later.

The driver pulled over on his own about 10 minutes after that, though he would not exit the vehicle.

As a standoff with police continued, the driver could be seen looking at photos on his cell phone.

He eventually exited the vehicle and surrendered shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Police said the driver was wanted for a possible assault with a deadly weapon, though further details were not provided.
