Drone used to find car that careened off mountain road in L.A. County

Authorities used a drone to help them locate a vehicle that drove off a road in the Santa Monica Mountains on Monday night.

According to a spokesperson from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s Malibu-Lost Hills station, deputies responded to initial reports of a traffic collision on Stunt Road south of Mulholland Highway in Calabasas just before 9:45 p.m.

While CHP is tasked with handling crash investigations in that area, LASD responds to search and rescue operations, the spokesperson stated. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies deployed an unmanned aerial unit to assist in finding the vehicle and the victims.

Video from the scene obtained by KTLA shows deputies launching the drone as a helicopter with a spotlight circled overhead.

Once they were found, crews were able to rescue the two occupants of the vehicle. Their conditions were not known and it is unclear if they were transported to a hospital, but footage did show at least one person on a stretcher.

CHP officials confirmed that the incident only involved one vehicle; however, they were not able to confirm the cause of the crash.
