Newport, NC – A winter storm warning remains in effect for eastern North Carolina until 7 a.m. Wednesday. Areas from the Outer Banks to New Bern are bracing for heavy snow accumulations of 2 to 8 inches, depending on location.
According to the National Weather Service, regions such as Hatteras Island, Beaufort, and Greenville will experience the heaviest snowfall, with totals reaching up to 8 inches. Roadways, particularly bridges and overpasses, are expected to become dangerously slick, leading to treacherous travel conditions.
Communities in Duplin, Pitt, and Carteret Counties are advised to prepare for reduced visibility and delays as blowing snow may cause whiteout conditions. Commuters should delay travel if possible or proceed with extreme caution if necessary. Emergency kits with flashlights, food, and water are recommended for those venturing out.
Dangerous conditions are likely to persist into Wednesday morning, affecting school openings and commutes. Stay informed of road closures and local updates through the North Carolina Department of Transportation or by dialing 511 for the latest conditions.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and take precautions as the storm progresses overnight.
