Evanston, IL – A fire broke out early Sunday, February 23, in a single-family home in the 2100 block of Warren Street. Firefighters responded around 2:45 a.m. after receiving reports of heavy smoke and flames from the rear of the structure.
Fire crews arrived quickly and escalated the response to a Working Fire, bringing in additional resources. They aggressively attacked the flames, containing the fire to the bedroom within 10 minutes. Their efforts minimized structural damage to the home.
The two residents self-evacuated before firefighters arrived but suffered from smoke inhalation. Paramedics transported them to a local hospital for further evaluation. The fire caused extensive heat and smoke damage, forcing the residents to relocate.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries but remained on scene to assist with containment and investigation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
