Exclusive: Highway 178 Closed Due to Cracks in the Roadway!

Bakersfield, California — The California Highway Patrol stopped Highway 178 at the mouth of the canyon on Saturday after cracks were found in the road on Saturday afternoon.

The cracks are near the waterway and the mouth of the canyon, according to the California Department of Transportation.

Highway 178 and Highway 155 are also closed because of weather damage from before.

Caltrans District 6 said that people shouldn’t go to Lake Isabella right now. Find a different way.

The damaged part of the road was found in the middle of the canyon, in the westbound lane of Highway 178 near mile marker 21.

At first, the Kern County Fire Department sent out a press release saying that the westbound lane would be closed. At about 6:00 p.m., the CHP changed it to a full shutdown.

At Kern Canyon Road, the lane going west is closed. At the end of the canyon, the lane of Highway 178 that goes east is closed.
