Fatal Accident in Southwest Bakersfield: Excessive Speed Cited as Cause

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A fatal accident occurred on Thursday night in southwest Bakersfield, California, with speed being a contributing factor, according to the police.

The incident took place at the intersection of Gosford Road and District Boulevard shortly before 10:45 p.m. Witnesses at the scene pulled a severely injured man out of one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Although officers performed CPR until medical responders arrived, the man unfortunately passed away at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment, as confirmed by the police statement.

Investigators have determined that the deceased individual failed to stop at a red light, resulting in a collision with the other vehicle at the intersection of Gosford and District. The impact caused the man’s vehicle to collide with a tree located in the median on Gosford Road. Police suspect that excessive speed played a role in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone who has information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.
