FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – A tragic accident occurred on Interstate 95, leading to an investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). Detectives are now working to determine the motive behind a man’s actions after he unexpectedly ran into oncoming traffic, resulting in his death.
The incident took place around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, on the northbound entrance ramp onto I-95, just north of State Road 842 in Fort Lauderdale.
According to the FHP, while walking along the shoulder of the entrance ramp, the man abruptly darted in front of a car. The driver, a 25-year-old woman, was unable to slow down in time and collided with him.
The impact caused the man to strike the car’s right bumper, hood, and windshield before being thrown into the air and landing on the merge lane of the entrance ramp.
Emergency responders from the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue pronounced the man dead at the scene. The FHP has not released his identity, as they are still in the process of notifying his next of kin.
Fortunately, the woman inside the vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
The FHP is currently conducting an investigation to determine the motive behind the man’s actions.
Following the incident, authorities temporarily closed the entrance ramp to I-95 from Broward Boulevard, but it has since been reopened.
