Fatal Crash at Gary Intersection Claims Life of Portage Woman

Gary, IN – A fatal motor vehicle accident in Gary claimed the life of a Portage woman Monday evening.
Tiffany Lauren Nickels, 37, was identified at the scene after the incident at the intersection of 418 Johnson Street. The Lake County Coroner and Medicolegal Death Investigation team responded to the crash around 6:30 p.m.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, Nickels sustained multiple blunt force traumatic injuries. The office classified the incident as a motor vehicle accident.
A forensic autopsy will take place Tuesday at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point. The agencies involved in the investigation include the Gary Police Department, CSI team, and the Lake County Crash Reconstruction Team.
Nickels resided on the 100 block of Echo Trail in Portage. Authorities have not released additional details about the crash at this time.
