FEMA opening disaster recovery centers in Los Angeles area

FEMA is continuing to aid residents affected by the devastating wildfires by opening two disaster recovery centers in the L.A. area.

The disaster recovery centers open Tuesday for anyone who experienced damage to their primary home, personal property loss or have disaster-caused emergency needs related to the wildfires, FEMA said in a news release issued with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services

At the centers, people can get help applying for federal assistance, speak to state and federal officials, receive updates on their FEMA application and learn about the appeals process.

The locations of the two disaster recovery centers are:

  • UCLA Research Park West: 10850 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles
  • Pasadena City College Community Education Center: 3035 East Foothill Boulevard, Pasadena

Each disaster recovery center opens at 1 p.m. on Tuesday; starting Wednesday, they will operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

It is not necessary for affected residents to go to a center to apply for assistance. The fastest way to apply for FEMA assistance, according to officials, is by going online to www.DisasterAssistance.gov or using the FEMA app.

Individuals can also call 1-800-621-3362 to apply for aid.

State resources for affected SoCal residents can be found at www.CA.gov/LAFires.

As of early Tuesday morning, the two main fires in the L.A. area, the Palisades and Eaton fires, were 17% and 33% contained, respectively. Both continue to burn as Santa Ana winds are expected to pick up this week.
