Firefighters battling second-alarm blaze at commercial structure in East L.A.
Firefighters in East Los Angeles are battling a second-alarm fire inside what appears to be a boarded up commercial structure.
Preliminary reports suggest that the boarded-up building, located in the 1400 block of Atlantic Boulevard, was well involved with smoke and fire showing.
Los Angeles County Fire crews took a defensive approach to the blaze which caused a partial wall collapse. KTLA’s Gil Leyvas reported that firefighters took a surround-and-drown approach, hitting the flames from as many angles as possible to slow the spread and extinguish the blaze with hoses, ladder trucks and water cannons.
Aerial footage from Sky5, which is over the fire ,showed heavy smoke blowing across the densely populated area, with crews expressing particular concern for some apartments were taking heavy smoke.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Atlantic Boulevard in the area is shut down due to the firefighting effort.
