TALLAHASSEE, FL – Florida’s Panhandle is bracing for a rare winter storm as temperatures plunge into the low 20s tonight. Freeze warnings remain in effect across the region, with significant risks of icy roads and light snow accumulation forecasted for Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, freezing rain will begin late Tuesday night, affecting areas along I-10, including Tallahassee, Marianna, and Pensacola. Ice accumulation of up to 0.25 inches is expected, posing travel dangers on major roadways. Snowfall could reach up to 2 inches in northern areas, including Enterprise and Dothan, AL.

Temperatures tonight will drop to 24°F in Tallahassee, with highs struggling to surpass the mid-40s Tuesday. Wind chills could fall to the teens, prompting officials to urge residents to limit outdoor exposure. Residents are advised to protect pipes, pets, and plants, and exercise extreme caution when traveling.

A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning, covering much of North Florida and South Georgia. Light freezing rain could continue into early Wednesday, impacting morning commutes.

By midweek, conditions will gradually improve as temperatures climb back into the 50s, with sunny skies forecasted by Thursday. However, black ice risks may linger Wednesday morning, particularly on bridges and overpasses.
