Jacksonville, FL – A freeze warning is in effect for northeast and northern Florida, as well as southeast Georgia, from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday. Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 26°F during the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service, affected areas include Gainesville, Jacksonville, Live Oak, Starke, Waycross, Folkston, and Jesup, among others. Sub-freezing temperatures could damage tender vegetation, harm outdoor pets, and pose risks to vulnerable populations, such as young children, the elderly, and the homeless.

Residents are urged to protect plants, wrap or drip exposed pipes, and ensure outdoor animals are sheltered. Frost-sensitive crops and plants should be covered or brought indoors.

The National Weather Service recommends checking on neighbors, particularly those who may need assistance in preparing for the cold. For updates, monitor local weather reports or visit the National Weather Service website.
