Gas leak in Riverside County prompts mandatory evacuations

A gas leak in Riverside County has prompted mandatory evacuations, authorities announced Thursday.

Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly what caused the rupture, but officials first notified the public about the leak, in 1300 block of State Street in San Jacinto, at around 11:30 a.m.

By 1:30 p.m., evacuations were ordered for residents and businesses:

  • North of Fruitvale
  • South of Seventh Street
  • East of Palm Avenue
  • West of Sant Fe Avenue

In a post to X, formerly Twitter just after 3:30 p.m., the Riverside County Fire Department said that SoCalGas was on the scene and “working to mitigate the leak.”

For residents in the San Jacinto Area impacted by the gas leak, a care and reception center has been established at Tahquitz High School, located at 4425 Titan Trail, in Hemet.
