Gas station clerk shot point blank in L.A. County robbery attempt

A gas station clerk is recovering after being shot in the chest during a robbery that was caught on video in Los Angeles County’s San Gabriel Valley.

Miguel Cid was shot at point-blank range while working on Feb. 28 at the ARCO gas station market on Workman Mill Road in La Puente.

A would-be robber entered the store with a handgun around 9:30 p.m. and confronted Cid, who is seen on surveillance video raising his hands.

The suspect then fired, striking Cid in the chest. A GoFundMe page to help with Cid’s medical expenses said the bullet damaged his lung but he is recovering.

Cid’s brother spoke with KTLA Tuesday and recounted the incident.

“He (the shooter) panicked very hard. He seemed like he was scrambling back and forth and he didn’t take no money. All that for no money,” Richard Cid said. “Sometimes, nowadays people will kill for $10, $20 you know. You don’t know if they’re on drugs or not … you can never be too sure … or if they have a loose screw in their head. You just got to protect yourself and be very vigilant at all times.”

Sheriff’s deputies confirmed that an arrest was made that night but it was unclear if charges have been filed.
