Atlanta, GA – A winter storm watch is in effect across central Georgia, with frigid conditions continuing into Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to dip into the teens overnight, with wind chills as low as 6°F creating dangerous outdoor conditions. Snow and freezing rain are likely Tuesday morning, potentially impacting travel on key routes such as I-85 and I-75.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow accumulation of up to 2 inches is possible by late Tuesday. A cold weather advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Monday, warning residents of frostbite risks if exposed to the cold without proper clothing. Tuesday night may see additional snow showers with lows near 19°F.

Roadways and Travel Concerns

Drivers should exercise caution, especially during the Tuesday morning commute, as roads could become slippery. Light freezing rain and sleet may add to hazardous conditions in areas such as Peachtree City and along interstates. Georgia Department of Transportation officials urge travelers to avoid nonessential trips and check road conditions before venturing out.

Extended Forecast

The cold spell will ease slightly by midweek, with sunny skies and highs near 38°F on Wednesday. Temperatures will climb into the 40s by Thursday but remain below seasonal averages. A warming trend is expected by Saturday, with highs nearing 52°F.

Safety Precautions

Residents are advised to wear layers, hats, and gloves and limit time outdoors during extreme cold. Prepare for possible power outages by securing flashlights, batteries, and emergency supplies.
