Savannah, GA – A rare winter storm is impacting southeast Georgia, bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain to the region. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect until noon Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, accumulations of 2 to 4 inches of snow and sleet are expected, along with ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch. Affected areas include Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, and McIntosh counties, covering cities such as Savannah, Richmond Hill, and Hinesville.

Hazardous road conditions, particularly on bridges and overpasses, are anticipated. Commuters should plan for delays during the Wednesday morning rush hour. Suspension bridges, including those near Savannah, may experience falling ice as cables accumulate buildup.

Officials urge residents to remain indoors if possible. Those needing to travel are advised to pack emergency supplies, such as flashlights, food, and water. Drivers should exercise extreme caution and consider using tire chains if available.

Temperatures are expected to remain near freezing overnight, contributing to the icy conditions. Updates on road closures and weather developments are available by dialing 511 or visiting local government websites.
