Raleigh, NC – Strong winds are sweeping across Central North Carolina today, bringing gusts of up to 35 mph and setting the stage for a cold and rainy weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, the strongest winds will occur in the Northwest Piedmont, gradually diminishing by evening. Residents are advised to secure outdoor furniture and use caution when driving, particularly on I-40 and other major highways, where sudden gusts may create hazardous conditions.
The weekend forecast features rain beginning early Saturday, spreading across the region throughout the day. By Sunday evening, colder air will cause rain to transition to a wintry mix along the Virginia border. Temperatures will drop significantly early next week, with highs struggling to reach the low 30s and lows in the teens. Dangerous wind chills are likely, especially overnight Monday through Wednesday.
Looking ahead, subfreezing conditions will persist through midweek, with no significant warm-up expected. The extended dry spell, coupled with limited rainfall, will do little to alleviate drought conditions in the region.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts and prepare for icy conditions and dangerously low temperatures in the coming days.
