Hamilton County, NY – Residents of Hamilton County are preparing for significant snowfall as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Wednesday morning. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, warns of lake effect snow bringing accumulations between 3 and 6 inches across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snow is expected in western Hamilton County. The advisory, which began Monday evening, will remain active until 7 a.m. Wednesday. Snowfall is anticipated to create slippery road conditions, making travel hazardous.
Lake effect snow bands will cause rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions. Areas experiencing heavy snow may face sudden whiteout conditions, while nearby locations could see relatively dry weather. Residents are urged to stay cautious and allow extra travel time if venturing out.
Forecasters advise slowing down and using extreme caution while driving, especially in areas prone to heavy snow accumulation. Snowplows will be active throughout the advisory period to keep main roads clear, but secondary roads may remain treacherous.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing throughout the storm, with overnight lows in the teens. Winds from the northwest could contribute to blowing and drifting snow in open areas.
For updates, check local forecasts and road conditions before traveling. Officials recommend carrying emergency supplies, including blankets, water, and flashlights, in vehicles during winter storms.
