Hawaii Severe Thunderstorm Watch: Honolulu and Maui Counties Under Alert Until 6 PM HST

Honolulu, HI – A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Honolulu and Maui counties, including the cities of Honolulu, Kahului, Kaunakakai, and Lanai City, in effect until 6 PM HST tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms, with the potential for damaging winds of 58 mph or higherand hail the size of quarters or larger. The advisory also extends to nearby coastal waters, including the Kaiwi Channel, Maʻalaea Bay, and the Pailolo and Alenuihaha Channels, posing risks for marine travel.

Residents and visitors should stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and possible warnings. Those in the affected areas are urged to seek shelter indoors if severe storms develop. Mariners should monitor marine warnings and be prepared for hazardous conditions at sea.
