Historic first taking place at Big Bear this weekend
For the first time in Big Bear Mountain Resort’s history, visitors will have the rare opportunity to ski and mountain bike in a single day this weekend.
Thanks to a strong winter season and early spring warmth, the resort will wrap up winter operations at Bear Mountain while simultaneously launching summer operations at Snow Valley.
The Snow Valley base area will open for the summer season on April 19, offering lift-served downhill mountain biking, hiking, scenic sky chair rides and food. Meanwhile, Bear Mountain is scheduled to close for the winter on Sunday, April 20, after 129 days of skiing and snowboarding.
“It’s a unique chance to hit the Big Bear double,” the resort said in a statement.
Photos shared by the resort showed crews prepping the mountain bike runs, clearing snow from some paths and dragging the dirt at others.
Both Snow Valley and Snow Summit are considered top-tier destinations for mountain biking in Southern California, featuring downhill and cross-country trails for all skill levels, the resort’s website says.
Snow Valley will operate on select dates throughout the summer, while Snow Summit’s summer season is set to begin June 6. Dates are subject to change.
The resort also offers a full range of mountain bike rentals and protective gear to accommodate all riders.
