Hit-and-run driver kills man trying to help loose dog in Mission Hills

A man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Mission Hills Sunday evening.

The man was walking in the roadway on Devonshire Street near the intersection with Woodman Avenue just before 9:30 p.m. when he was hit by a car, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a news release.

According to police, that man, only identified as being in his 50s, was “attempting to help a loose dog that was crossing Devonshire Street when he was struck.”

The man was declared dead at the scene.

That vehicle, a light-colored sedan, did not stop, and the driver did not assist the man or identify themselves.

A reward of up to $50,000 is available for information leading to the driver.
