Homeless man fatally shot after argument with woman in Santa Monica

Police are searching for a man who shot and killed a transient seen arguing with a woman in Santa Monica early Tuesday.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Broadway, Santa Monica police stated.

Investigators learned that the victim, a man in his 30s believed to be homeless, was seen arguing with a female just before the shooting took place.

“The suspect, a male white or Hispanic, approached the victim and chased him into the
middle of the street, shooting the victim in the back,” police stated in a release.

The unidentified victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The suspect, who is believed to be in his 20s, was last seen running northbound in a nearby alley and out of sight.

Detectives are reviewing witness statements and surveillance video in hopes of identifying everyone involved.
