Springfield, IL – Freezing drizzle and light rain will spread north over central Illinois late Friday into Saturday morning. Forecasters warn of slick roads, especially near and north of I-74.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, temperatures will hover near or just below freezing. This could cause a light ice glaze on roads and elevated surfaces. The highest risk for ice accumulation will be early Saturday, with conditions improving by midday.

Officials urge drivers to use caution, as icy roads could lead to dangerous travel. Elevated surfaces, such as bridges and overpasses, will freeze first. Commuters should plan for possible delays and slippery roads.

The freezing drizzle will be heaviest between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Saturday. Afterward, temperatures will rise, reducing the ice threat. Residents should monitor forecasts for updates.
