Pocatello, ID – An extreme cold watch remains in effect for portions of eastern Idaho from late Saturday night through Sunday morning. Residents in the Arco/Mud Lake Desert and the Upper Snake River Plain should prepare for dangerously cold wind chills as low as 23 below zero.

According to the National Weather Service in Pocatello, the affected areas include Rexburg, Idaho Falls, St. Anthony, and Craters of the Moon National Monument. The cold wind chills may cause frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes.

Residents are advised to dress in layers, including hats, face masks, and gloves, if venturing outdoors. Additional precautions include wrapping or dripping water pipes to prevent freezing, keeping pets indoors, and checking on older family members and neighbors.

Portable heaters should be used with caution, and generators or grills should never be used indoors due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The extreme cold watch begins late Saturday night and continues through Sunday morning. For updates and detailed safety tips, visit weather.gov/pocatello.
