Chicago, IL – Bitterly cold weather will grip Illinois through Wednesday morning, with sub-zero wind chills as low as -30°F posing a serious threat. The coldest conditions will arrive late tonight and stretch into Tuesday, prompting warnings for residents to limit time outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chills will drop to dangerous levels across northern Illinois, including areas along I-55 and I-80. Exposure to these temperatures can result in frostbite in as little as 10 minutes. Those venturing outdoors are urged to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and ensure pets are brought indoors.

The extreme cold could also lead to rapid ice formation on rivers, creating risks for localized flooding along waterways. While snowfall will remain light, wind gusts could exacerbate road hazards, particularly on elevated bridges and overpasses.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast indicates a gradual warming trend by Thursday, with highs reaching the mid-20s to low 30s by the weekend. However, flurries and isolated snow showers are possible through Wednesday, keeping conditions treacherous on untreated surfaces.

Residents are advised to check on vulnerable neighbors, avoid unnecessary travel, and ensure emergency supplies are on hand. Stay updated by visiting the National Weather Service’s website or tuning into local news channels for the latest alerts.
