Springfield, IL – Light snow is set to move across central Illinois starting Friday evening and continuing through Sunday morning, with minor accumulations expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, IL, rain will transition back to snow from the west late Friday evening and overnight. Snow accumulations are expected to range from a dusting to up to 2 inches in most areas, including Springfield, Bloomington, and Champaign, with slightly higher amounts of 1 to 3 inches forecast for Kankakee and surrounding regions. Snow is expected to taper off to flurries by Sunday morning.

Residents are advised to prepare for potentially snow-covered or slippery roads. Travelers should exercise caution, allowing extra time for safe travel due to reduced visibility and hazardous conditions.

While snowfall amounts are expected to remain minor, the transition from rain to snow could create icy conditions overnight. This winter weather event comes as central Illinois continues to experience fluctuating temperatures typical for mid-February.

For the latest updates and travel advisories, residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and road condition reports throughout the weekend.
