Grant County, IN – An Indiana State Trooper suffered injuries in a crash on State Road 22 near County Road 600 East on Tuesday morning.

According to Indiana State Police, Senior Trooper Weston Shanks, a 13-year veteran, was patrolling westbound in his department-issued Dodge Charger. A Ford F-450 pulling a utility trailer, driven by Beau D. Jaqua, 44, of Indianapolis, was also traveling westbound ahead of Shanks.

Jaqua slowed to turn into the Lecom Utility complex when Shanks’ patrol car rear-ended the trailer. The impact forced the Charger off the road, where it stopped in a ditch.

Emergency responders transported Shanks by air ambulance to Lutheran Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Jaqua was not injured.

Investigators do not suspect alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the cause.

Indiana State Police worked with multiple agencies, including the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Gas City Police Department, and local fire and EMS teams, to assist at the scene.
