Indianapolis, IN – Moderate snow moving through central Indiana is expected to impact travel across several counties, including Marion, Madison, and Shelby, until Thursday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, snow was observed along a line from Matthews to Greenwood at 1:35 p.m., moving east at 30 mph. This system is expected to create rapidly changing road conditions, with slick and icy spots forming as snow melts and refreezes on roadways.
Counties affected include Hamilton, Hancock, Delaware, Randolph, Henry, Rush, and northeastern Decatur. Cities such as Indianapolis, New Castle, Alexandria, and Daleville are within the impacted area. Interstate highways I-65, I-69, I-70, and I-74 are expected to see hazardous conditions between mile markers 78 and 251.
Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time. Be prepared for snow or ice-covered roads, particularly in shaded areas or bridges that may freeze quickly.
The National Weather Service reminds residents to monitor local forecasts and stay updated on road conditions. Conditions may deteriorate rapidly during winter weather events.
