Indianapolis Firefighters Battle Blaze at Vacant Home Amid Freezing Temperatures

Indianapolis, IN – Firefighters battled icy conditions Thursday morning to contain a blaze at a vacant structure near Washington Street and North Tremont Street. The fire, which was reported just before noon, sent heavy flames and smoke into the air, threatening a nearby restaurant.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD), multiple 911 calls alerted authorities to the fire. Crews arrived swiftly and brought the situation under control within 15 minutes. One firefighter sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

The vacant building, located adjacent to La Herradura Mexican Restaurant, sustained significant damage, though firefighters successfully prevented the flames from spreading to the business. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Local residents commended firefighters for their quick response in freezing temperatures, ensuring public safety and protecting nearby properties.
