Indianapolis, IN – Two Indianapolis parents have been arrested in connection with the death of their 8-year-old daughter, who died from acute fentanyl intoxication last year, authorities said.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), 33-year-old Lee Cooksey and 35-year-old Brittany Warr were taken into custody Wednesday with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Task Force.
IMPD said officers responded to a report of a child who had stopped breathing on May 1, 2024, in the 3600 block of N Capitol Avenue. Police arrived to find Cooksey carrying his unresponsive daughter. Officers and medics attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office later determined the child died from acute fentanyl intoxication. Detectives conducted a months-long investigation, which led to the issuance of arrest warrants for Cooksey and Warr on January 26. Both are facing charges of Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death.
