Omaha, NE – Freezing drizzle is creating dangerous road conditions across Nebraska and Iowa, with travel impacts expected through Wednesday evening. Commuters should prepare for icy surfaces, especially on untreated roads and bridges.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a winter weather advisory remains in effect for southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, where the highest risk for slick roads extends from Falls City to Sidney and the Harlan Line. Freezing rain is expected throughout the day, with a 40-60% chance of precipitation. Winds will increase overnight, shifting northwest with gusts up to 24 mph.
Thursday will bring relief as skies clear, with highs reaching the low 40s. However, another system could bring light snow on Saturday, with a 20% chance of accumulation. By Sunday, temperatures will rebound into the mid-30s with mostly sunny skies.
Drivers should use caution, especially on Interstate 80 and major highways. Avoid unnecessary travel during freezing conditions, and check road updates before heading out. Spotter reports on icy conditions are appreciated by the NWS.
