Kankakee, IL – Pet owners in Kankakee County are being urged to verify and update their pets’ microchip registrations. Officials warn that outdated information linked to Save This Life microchips could delay reuniting with lost pets.
According to Kankakee County Animal Control, microchips registered with Save This Life, starting with 991001 or 900164, present challenges in retrieving owner information. As of mid-January 2025, accessing owner details through this service has become more difficult.
Animal control officials recommend linking pet microchips to a reliable registry to ensure faster reunions. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) offers a universal microchip lookup tool. Pet owners can use this tool to confirm which company maintains their microchip records.
Visit the AAHA’s microchip lookup page to review your pet’s registration status: aaha.org/microchip-search. Maintaining up-to-date records ensures lost pets can return home quickly and safely.
Kankakee officials remind pet owners to act immediately to prevent potential delays if their pet goes missing.
