Kansas City, MO – Frigid temperatures and dangerous wind chills will grip the region this week, bringing subzero conditions early next week. A brief warm-up Thursday and Friday will offer some relief before arctic air returns.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will see highs near 38 degrees with sunny skies, but temperatures will plummet Friday night as a cold front sweeps through. By Monday and Tuesday, wind chills could fall as low as -15°F, with actual lows dropping near zero. Residents should prepare for dangerously cold conditions by securing outdoor pipes, checking heating systems, and limiting outdoor activities.

Highs for Friday will reach the mid-40s before the cold front moves in overnight. The weekend forecast includes partly sunny skies Saturday, with highs struggling to reach 26°F. Sunday will be even colder, with a daytime high of just 15°F. Subzero wind chills will peak during the overnight hours Sunday into Monday.

Motorists should remain cautious on untreated roads, particularly along highways such as I-70 and Highway 50, where residual ice may create hazardous travel conditions. Frostbite risk increases dramatically with these conditions, so wear insulated layers and gloves if venturing outside.

Looking ahead, Tuesday’s high of 18°F brings no significant thaw. Extended forecasts suggest temperatures may remain below freezing well into next week. Stay informed with updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
