Phillipsburg, KS – A winter storm warning is in effect for north-central Kansas from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m. Wednesday, with heavy snowfall expected to impact travel and daily activities.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, Nebraska, the storm will bring between 6 and 9 inches of dry, fluffy snow across Phillips, Smith, Jewell, Rooks, Osborne, and Mitchell counties. Winds will not be a major factor, but gusts up to 25 mph may create reduced visibility and slick roads.
The storm is expected to cause hazardous travel conditions, especially during Wednesday’s morning and evening commutes. Authorities urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, including flashlights, food, and water.
If travel is essential, officials recommend carrying a winter survival kit with tire chains, booster cables, blankets, and a first aid kit. Drivers can check the latest road conditions by dialing 511.
Residents should prepare for possible disruptions and stay updated on further weather developments.
