Paducah, KY – An arctic blast has settled over Kentucky, sending temperatures plunging and creating dangerously low wind chills. Overnight, wind chills could fall as low as -15 degrees in some areas, with air temperatures dropping into the teens.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, residents should brace for one of the coldest nights of the season. Tuesday night temperatures will hover between 15 and 20 degrees, with northern regions experiencing single-digit wind chills by early Wednesday morning. Flurries may develop in some areas, although no significant snow accumulation is expected.
By Thursday, warmer air begins to push into the region, raising daytime highs into the mid-40s. Friday could bring even more relief, with temperatures nearing 50 degrees. However, rain will accompany the brief warm-up, lasting into Saturday morning.
Another cold front looms late Saturday, bringing a sharp return to freezing conditions. Highs on Sunday may not exceed the mid-20s, while nighttime lows will approach single digits once again. Forecasters warn that icy roads and rapidly changing conditions could create hazardous travel throughout the weekend.
The National Weather Service urges residents to bundle up and limit time outside tonight and Wednesday morning. Wind chills as low as -15 can cause frostbite on exposed skin in under 30 minutes. Take precautions to protect pets, pipes, and plants from the extreme cold.
