Jackson, KY – Rain will shift to snow Saturday night, leaving slick roads and hazardous conditions as southeastern Kentucky braces for an arctic blast.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, temperatures will rise to the mid-40s on Friday with mostly clear skies. Rain will likely begin late Friday night, transitioning into a wintry mix Saturday evening before turning to snow overnight. Light snow accumulations are expected in areas east of I-75, especially in the higher elevations.
Roads, particularly along Route 15 and I-64, may become icy, posing challenges for travelers. Temperatures will plummet into the single digits by Sunday morning, with wind chills dipping below zero in some areas. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure during this time and prepare vehicles for cold-weather conditions.
Saturday’s high will hover near 40°F before rapidly dropping. Snow chances continue into Sunday, with highs barely reaching 30°F. Sunday night will be bitterly cold, with lows around 7°F. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday will bring clearer skies but continued cold, with highs in the teens and overnight lows near 5°F.
Looking ahead, temperatures will gradually warm by midweek, but frigid air will dominate through Tuesday, keeping conditions icy.
Residents should stock up on supplies, monitor weather updates, and allow extra travel time. Stay off the roads during peak snowfalls if possible to ensure safety.
