Knox County, IL – Two Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-74

Knox County, IL – Two drivers were killed early Thursday in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 74 in Knox County, according to authorities.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred at approximately 3:12 a.m. at mile marker 63 on the eastbound lanes of I-74. A 2012 Cadillac sedan and a 2019 Toyota SUV collided head-on, killing both drivers.

Officials stated that a passenger in the Toyota SUV sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted for emergency medical treatment. Preliminary findings indicate the crash was caused by a wrong-way driver.

Eastbound lanes of I-74 were closed for several hours as authorities investigated the scene. No further details were immediately available.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved as they notify next of kin. The investigation remains ongoing.
