Koreatown hit-and-run crash leaves pedestrian in critical condition
Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who left a pedestrian in critical condition in L.A.’s Koreatown neighborhood.
On March 1, the male victim, identified only as a San Pedro resident, was seen crossing the road at Western Avenue and 1st Street at around 6:30 p.m.
As he jogged across the street, the suspect, in a possible Toyota Camry sedan, sped through the intersection and crashed into him.
Surveillance video showed the impact sent the man flying onto the car’s windshield and roof before he fell onto the road.
The suspect did not stop to check on the injured man and continued speeding away. The driver’s vehicle is described as a gray, four-door sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry.
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the man to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition on Tuesday night.
“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” said LAPD. “The public is also reminded that as pedestrians, they should exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road.”
A reward of up to $25,000 is available to anyone who provides information leading to the suspect’s identification, apprehension, and conviction.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Officer Hurd of LAPD’s South Traffic Division at 213-321-9681. The public can also call the LAPD at 1-877-527-3247.
