LA Family Saves Home from Wildfires with Affordable Pool Water Pumping System

A family from Los Angeles’ Palisades Highlands neighborhood recounted their incredible tale this week of how they were able to protect their house from the devastating wildfires that have destroyed thousands of homes in the area.

In order to safeguard their property from the quickly spreading flames, the family acted decisively. To establish a protective barrier against the fire, they employed a variety of materials and equipment.

The family used a pump to extract water from the pool and direct it toward parts of their property that were susceptible to fire.

The family used sprinklers in addition to the pump, placing them thoughtfully throughout their house to flood the surrounding area and slow the spread of the the destructive wildfire . In order to maintain a steady flow of water to fight the fire, a generator supplied the power required to keep the pump and sprinklers operating.

Instagram user Cali_._love said that the system is “very budget friendly and easy to operate,” and she accompanied the post with a video that showed them pumping water out of their pool and spraying it on the flora that was surrounding their hillside home.

“There is no doubt in my mind that this generator, pump, pool, sprinkler and fire hose contributed to saving our family home,” Cali_._love stated. “My dad was so adamant about all the neighbors having one. He was correct as he has been so many times in his career.”

It was reported that they drained two swimming pools, one belonging to them and one belonging to their neighbors, and ran their equipment for a total of ten hours over the course of two days, soaking the plants and their roof.

However, when they returned the next day, they discovered that the bottom half of the palm tree had been burned along with the entire hillside.

“Without this, there would be no more house and possibly no more neighbors. Were we lucky? Extremely. Were we prepared? Yes. Were there things we would have done differently? Absolutely,” they stated.

Despite the fact that their home did not survive the fire, they have stated that they are “adamant” that their technique should be utilized by anyone who owns a swimming pool.

They stated that there are various water storage solutions available even in the absence of a pool.

“Since we were in the area we did our rounds on the neighbors’ homes and our dear family friends,” they continued. “We encountered a lot of threatening embers and live fire. It was a challenge to put them all out but we did the best we could with buckets and their pools. If they had this, we would have been 100x more efficient.”

In addition to that, they provided a demonstration for anyone who was interested in utilizing the system to safeguard their residence.
