Oswego, NY – A winter weather advisory is in effect for Oswego County, with lake effect snow expected to accumulate up to 6 inches. Snowfall will begin tonight at 9 p.m. and continue through 1 p.m. Friday, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest snowfall will impact areas closest to Lake Ontario’s shoreline. Accumulations will vary, but drivers should prepare for rapid changes in visibility and slippery roads. Forecasters warn that the Friday morning commute will be especially challenging.
The advisory highlights that lake effect snow can create highly localized conditions. While some areas may experience heavy snowfall, others could see dry skies only a few miles away. Oswego residents are urged to monitor conditions closely and prepare for delays.
Further south, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie Counties remain under a similar advisory until 7 a.m. Friday. These regions are expecting an additional 3 to 5 inches of snow, with the most significant impacts along Chautauqua Ridge and Boston Hills.
NWS reports that the bulk of snow accumulation will occur late Thursday afternoon into the evening. Reduced visibility and snow-covered roads are expected to slow traffic during the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.
Residents across the affected areas should use caution while driving, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for updates. Snow reports can be shared with the NWS via their website or social media platforms.
