Buffalo, NY – Moderate lake effect snow will create hazardous travel across parts of western and central New York through Tuesday morning. Drivers along I-90 and nearby roadways should expect reduced visibility and slippery conditions, with additional snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches possible in the heaviest bands.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, snow showers will persist this afternoon, drifting into northern Wyoming and southern Genesee counties before shifting south into northern Chautauqua and southern Erie counties tonight. The Tug Hill Plateau will see similar conditions, with intensifying snow bands producing an additional 3 to 5 inches.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m. Tuesday. Winds gusting up to 37 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow, particularly along open highways like I-90. Temperatures will drop to 16°F tonight, with wind chills falling into the single digits.
Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring partly sunny skies but remain breezy with a high of 22°F. Snow chances return Wednesday night into Thursday, with potential accumulations impacting the Thursday morning commute.
Residents are urged to limit unnecessary travel and prepare for rapidly changing weather. Stay updated by checking forecasts and monitoring road conditions.
