Sulphur, LA – A Leesville man was killed Wednesday in a head-on collision on Louisiana Highway 27, authorities said.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. near the intersection of LA Highway 27 and Houston River Road. Walter Clinton, 50, was riding a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, he crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a 2018 Dodge Charger.

Clinton, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dodge’s occupants were properly restrained, and only the driver sustained minor injuries, police said.

State Police collected toxicology samples for analysis as part of their ongoing investigation.

Authorities emphasized the importance of motorcycle safety training. “Taking an approved motorcycle safety course can help riders develop essential skills to handle unexpected situations on the road,” the agency stated. Information about these courses can be found at the Louisiana State Police website.
